Cherry Blossoms at Parc de Sceaux

If you take the RER B just south of Paris in the month of April, you’ll discover the most amazing grove of cherry trees in Parc de Sceaux, planted in perfectly-formed French straight lines. After three and a half years of living in and around Paris, I’m moving back to the United States, and so this week on Instagram I’m remembering some of my most magical experiences in the City of Lights. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this spot when I visited in 2019, and I am so grateful I ventured out on a rainy day because April 2020 and April 2021 brought lockdowns and travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

This lovely place in Parc de Sceaux is very popular as you can imagine and very crowded on sunny days, weekends, and holidays. If you have the opportunity, the best time to visit is during the normal work day, and if it so happens to be raining or cloudy, don’t let it put you off, because those conditions enabled my friend and I to have the entire place to ourselves. I think there were two other people around when we took pictures.

The park around the Château de Sceaux is vast, and you could spend an entire day exploring it as well as the museum inside the château. There are playgrounds, formal gardens, and fountains. It is a great place to visit with kids, though depending on their ages you might need to pace yourself because it is a lot of walking.
